AGMA 5 S, ISO VG 220 | Gear Lube | Synthetic

Gear lubricants formulated from synthetic base stocks are some of the finest lubricants available - though they do not contain EP (extreme-pressure) additives, they can exhibit similar performance characteristics to these lubricants. EP additives are not suitable for every gearbox: especially those containing yellow metals. The synthetic base stocks of these gear lubricants provide the extra protection without the EP additive. Check with OEM specifications to determine if AGMA 5 S, ISO VG 220, Synthetic Gear Lube is the ideal type for your machine.

ISO VG 220 oil has a midpoint kinematic viscosity of 220 mm2/s, also referred to as centistokes (cSt). The midpoint is derived by taking the average of both the minimum and maximum kinematic viscosities. In the case of ISO VG 220 oil, those numbers are 198 cSt and 242 cSt, respectively. AGMA 5 lubricants have a minimum viscosity of 198 mPa.s and a maximum viscosity of 242 mPa.s. These numbers refer to the standard testing mechanisms used to determine how much resistance to flow (i.e. viscosity) these oils demonstrate.
