AGMA 3 EP, ISO VG 100 | Gear Lube (EP)

Description

Gearboxes operating in extreme pressures and excessive temperatures (often known as heavily-loaded geardrives) require unique lubricants that can withstand the intense environment in which they operate. Certain additive systems are employed in these oils in order to give them the increased performance characteristics they require for operation in heavily-loaded gearboxes. Gearboxes work at extremely high pressures and temperatures - Extreme-Pressure (EP) additives are required in these lubricants in order to prevent oil breakdown. These additives are not always applicable for every gearbox due to the sulphur-containing formulations which can be corrosive to yellow metals.

ISO VG 100 oil has a midpoint kinematic viscosity of 100 mm2/s, also referred to as centistokes (cSt). The midpoint is derived by taking the average of both the minimum and maximum kinematic viscosities. In the case of ISO VG 100 oil, those numbers are 90.0 cSt and 110.0 cSt, respectively. AGMA 3 lubricants have a minimum viscosity of 90 mPa.s and a maximum viscosity of 110 mPa.s. These numbers refer to the standard testing mechanisms used to determine how much resistance to flow (i.e. viscosity) these oils demonstrate.
